We didn't make it to Mixto on our last visit to Philadelphia, but several good sources have told us that it's owned and operated by the same people who own Tierra Colombiana. This decidedly upscale spot in Center City's Antique Row competes with the likes of Alma de Cuba and Café Habana. Several people also mentioned that the portions here are more ample than the competition, although the prices are similar.

The master of the kitchen, Chef Miguel Leon, is from Venezuela and contrary to local belief, this is not a fusion restaurant. Like its mother restaurant to the north, Mixto is a menagerie of various South American and Caribbean dishes focusing on Cuban and Colombian with a few Venezuelan touches.
