Cuban Corner
Jorge: We are happy to report that there are Cubans in our Nation's capitol.

Glenn: There are also several good Cuban restaurants in the Washington, DC area. In nearby Rockville, Maryland, the Cuban Corner is doing a nice business turning out excellent, homestyle Cuban food at very reasonable prices.

Jorge: For starters, the papa rellenas are served hot and fresh with a crispy fried potato shell and a stuffing of picadillo with green olives.

Glenn: Cuban Corner also serves a Spanish chorizo appetizer with melted cheese, a little on the fatty side, but also very satisfying. And hey, a little extra fat never hurt anyone!

Raúl: The tamales here are very good, very similar to the ones we like best in Miami.

Jorge: A specialty of the house is the montuna Cubano, a stir fry of pork with olives, onions, and red peppers.

Glenn: My favorite at the Cuban Corner is Pargo Entero Frito, a whole red snapper lightly breaded and deep fried. The skin is crispy and moist on the inside without being greasy. Also notable is an enchilado de camarones in the standard criollo sauce. The chef here adds capers to add a nice salty-acidic flavor.

Jorge: The masas de puerco are prepared just right, crisp on the ourside, tender on the inside, and NOT too greasy.

Raúl: Many people told us about the great Cuban sandwiches served here for lunch. We didn't get a chance to try them on our visit, but they're definitely part of the plan for next time.

Jorge: What we like at Cuban Corner the most are the basics: rich and hearty Cuban food favorites like frijoles negros, yuca, the croquetas de jamón, and the richly textured ajiaco, a thick Cuban stew loaded with the complete complement of Cuban vegetable favorites.

Glenn: Save room for the tres leches cake for dessert. It's almost as good as the one we make at home.

Jorge: Check out the Wall of Famous Cubans! Some day, you may see the Three Guys From Miami here!
